Last week, the RECOVER Closing Conference took place in Zagreb, Croatia to honour the end of the project, this August. Not only was it an occasion to look back at the eventful past 3,5 years, but also to look towards the future and what is still to come. Each work package lead presented their work of the past years, discussed the impact it had and shared their lessons learned. You can find the presentations here.
The RECOVER project came forth from PREPARE, an EU-initiative that developed a culture of clinical research preparedness (discover more about the history of RECOVER here). The COVID-19 pandemic tested the clinical research community to respond in a coordinated and timely manner and revealed that Europe was not well prepared and failed to respond adequately. RECOVER is a step in the right direction towards a better prepared Europe, but there is still a lot of room to grow. It is essential to keep working on pandemic preparedness, prioritising clinical research and forging a partnership among countries, research institutions and organisations.
